What is Acakoro School?
Acakoro School is Kenyas first football boarding school located in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County. It is the education branch of the Kenyan-Austrian ACAKORO NGO that has its roots in Nairobi.
How does the application process work?

The potential student has to submit all required documents.

After going through the documents the applicants football talent gets vetted.

If the talent is sufficient the student will be invited for a 2-week test living period on campus.

The final admission will be made by the management based on those reports.
Which curriculum does the school follow?
Acakoro School follows the Kenyan CBC Curriculum. International Curricula are offered online through partner schools and attract an extra fee.
Do students have access to computer labs and digital education?
Yes - despite our remote location we offer digital education for our students. Learning is supported with Laptops, Computers and Tablets and ICT is intertwined in all subjects.
Do students get exposure to scouts and professional clubs?
Yes - we are regularly in touch with scouts from European academies/clubs. Acakoro is also regularly visited by scouts.
What kind of food is provided in the cafeteria?
Our chefs cook delicious meals that are sports appropriate and healthy. We blend traditional Kenyan food with international cuisine to enable a good physical development our our student-athletes.
How do you handle health care and emergencies on campus?
Our staff is First-Aid trained and will take care in case of emergencies. In case of serious injuries/sicknesses the student-athlete will be brought to our partner hospital nearby.
At what age can a child apply?
Boarding: we take students from the age of 10 years or Class 4.
Day School: students that join our day school can join us from Grade 1
Is there an entrance exam or assessment?
Yes - our potential students have to showcase their abilities in terms of football playing skills. Beyond that potential students have to demonstrate a good character during the 2-week trial living on campus.
School reports are vetted during that time.
How do you balance academics and football training?
Sports and education go hand in hand. In our revolutionary approach we are making sure that every individual student-athlete reaches his goals either academically or educational.
What is the student–teacher ratio?
We want to offer our student-athletes high quality education. Currently we have a student-teacher ratio of 8:1. In some classes we have a ratio of only 3:1. This supports our individual approach and enables teachers to really get to know the strenghts and interests of a student.
What opportunities exist for students to play in tournaments or travel abroad?
Acakoro travelled already on many occasions. We are planning for at least one international trip each year (not included in school fees) and play domestic or regional competitions regularly.
How do students spend weekends and free time?
Since we prepare them for a life as professional football players there is not a lot of free time. This time is dedicated to games, excursions, reading, personal projects and extracurricular activities. Weekends mostly constitute matchdays for our teams.
What are the admission requirements for Acakoro School?
Students who want to apply for Acakoro School, Homa Bay are selected based on an assessment of their football talent and academic performance. They are required to apply with their birth certificate, school reports and have to go through a rigurous talent assessment before admission.
How are scholarships awarded?
Acakoros parent organization gives scholarships to students based on their talent and the economic situation of their family.
They can range from partial to full scholarships and eligibility is assessed on an individual basis.
How do you support students who may struggle academically?
Students that have a harder time in class get individual tutoring from our teachers during free time. This will allow them to catch up and we ensure no kid gets left behind.
How often do students train football each week?
Student-Athletes - as we call them - train nearly every day. Every morning they engage in a team training session. In the afternoons - after classes - they train in small groups (2-5 players) and work on their individual development.
Is the school boarding-only or also day-school?
We offer boarding and day school.
How much is the school fee per term or year?
The school fees for self-sponsored student-athletes can be found on our website.
